and THAT is just this week.

On another note, this week marks the start of Major League Baseball and therefore this week is affectionately named Opening Day/Week.  Although this side-note seems unrelated, baseball has actually included music into many of its major operations.  With warm-up and batting music for each team and their players, as well as thematically chosen pop songs for the playoffs and clever one-offs for each team (such as The Orioles ‘Camden Style’) which bring both the fans and the players closer together.  Not only this, but there have been songs forever ingrained in our minds as linked directly to baseball; from the classic ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’ to the Yankees’ post game song by the legendary Frank Sinatra – New York, New York, baseball is a part of music history.  (See there was a point!)

I also want to give a shout out to the Orioles who started their season off strong today in a big way with a win against a very tough and talented squad down in Tampa against the Rays. Starting the Orioles Magic early!

Alright, so onto my musical acquisitions for today.  Shall I go with a soulful R&B artist who has had a rocky past to inspire his music, or maybe a 90’s grunge band keepin’ on keepin’ on?  How about I go with this lovely psychedelic rock band out of Austin, The Black Angels.  There newest album that was released today, Indigo Meadowis a psych-rock album reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane and The Doors, with a psychedelic album cover, lead singer Alex Maas’ heavy use of low-fi vocal distortion, the trippy guitar sounds, and even the organ to boot!  When instruments used on the album include: harmonium, autoharp, multiple organs and Tibetan singing bowl, you know you are gonna get that late 60’s vibe.  The lead single off of Indigo Meadow is Don’t Play With Guns which is currently receiving airplay on radio, but there are numerous other tracks deserving of a listen on this album as well: Broken SoldierTwisted LightIndigo Meadow and Black Isn’t Black.

Apart from the aforementioned album, here is my complete list of musical acquisitions for this week:

also, don’t forget to follow on Facebook and on Twitter @akwitz & @AudiofileAkwitz at to get even more music updates that don’t make my posts.

and for now, I bid you all adieu …
