From A to Z: Discovering new music so you don't have to…

New Music Tuesdays – Outside Lands and A Corporation of Thieves Edition

A relatively quiet week so far to kick off the first week of April.  No real big music announcements except for a few festival lineup postings (Pitchfork and Outside Lands) but apart from that, it’s been a quiet start to April.

Outside Lands actually features a fairly decent lineup with a lot of new music discovery at the helm in terms of their smaller font bands.  By the time August rolls around however, we may see a number of those artists having a slightly larger following than what they have currently (Jagwar Ma, Courtney Barnett. and Lucius in particular).

This week the only new music I picked up was the latest from The District’s very own Thievery Corporation, with their latest album Saudade.

Saudade is a Portugeuse word that has no direct English translation, however the gist behind the word is a longing for someone or something that one loves and the melancholy or nostalgia that follows as a result of it.  This album feels just like that, featuring strictly female voices, all very similar in sound.  This album features the female vocal talents of Lou Lou GhelichkhaniKarina ZevianiElin MelgarejoNatalia Clavier and Shana Halligan who all perform magnificently.  The album has a byline on the back cover which simply reads: “The quiet sound of Thievery Corporation”.  While it’s not particularly quiet, it does have that feeling of background music, but in a good way.  This album has a very mellow, Spanish feel to it which is perfect for relaxing as well as taking in a lively environment.  It’s enjoyable and relaxing and hits the spot in a lot of ways.  It’s the perfect warm weather music, and with this early Spring release, we hope it pushes Spring and Summer weather through the door sooner rather than later.  Best listening times for this album would be lazing out by the pool, or during warm, sunny evenings over dinner or just spending a relaxing evening together with old friends as you catch up or reminisce about times past.  Be sure to mark this down on your “must listen” list.

The other two albums I picked up today are far from new.   First, I picked up The Mountain Goats 2005 release, The Sunset Tree

This album features tracks This Year and Dance Music and the album, as a whole, is well worth a listen.

I also picked up one of my favorite albums from the 80’s on vinyl today, Dire Straits1985 release Brothers In Arms.  This album features the massively popular track Money For Nothing, but truly offers so much more than just that one song.  If you have never heard the entire album, be sure to give it a try, I swear you’ll enjoy it.

Last but not least, I will leave you with a new remix that was released late last week by MS MR via their SoundCloud page.  The track is a remix of their hit song Hurricane by remix artist Goldroom.

And now, as always, here was everything acquired on this New Release Tuesday:
