After the massive week we had last week, it’s expected that there is a down week following. This week is no exception, except this week is not devoid of good new music. This week’s new music highlights include new releases from Muse and the Icelandic Of Monsters and Men, as well as a new EP from Sharon Van Etten.
The sophomore effort from the Scandinavian quintet is a quality one. While it may not have as much of a kick as their début simply because of the audience’s newness of the sound on the first album, still packs enough of a punch. Led by lead single and kick-off track Crystals, the album is consistent throughout. The group have promoted their album by releasing 4 official lyric videos initially featuring the symbol of each track followed by someone singing the track (not from the band) which is actually quite interesting to watch. They have also released an official music video for Crystals; I have provided both, let me know which you like better.
Outside of the lead single there are plenty of tracks to also highlight. We will start with the other three tracks that received lyric videos: Hunger, Empire and I Of The Storm. Each of the tracks offer a vastly different dynamic unique to each. Also, I really want to highlight the track Wolves Without Teeth. This has to be my favorite track on the album, both lyrically and in overall composition. It is ingenious and enjoyable and quirky in a way only Scandi-pop can be. If you enjoyed the first album from 2012, you are sure to enjoy Beneath The Skin and it will be a welcome addition to the band’s live performance.
Also popping up in the last couple of days has been new music from MS MR, Ducktails and Panama which can be found in various formats on the Facebook page or Twitter handle @audiofileakwitz. Also, don’t forget to check out below the new track from Painted Palms.
And now, as always, here was everything acquired on this New Release Tuesday:
